wxs.us is a free weather service run by one person as a hobby. These terms cover every part of it: this website, the terminal service at t.wxs.us over curl and SSH, the Android app, and the desktop apps. By using any of them you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
This service exists for fun, curiosity, and learning about weather. It is not an emergency alert service and must never be used as one, or as a substitute for official warnings from the National Weather Service.
Nothing here is real time. Alerts can run several minutes behind official channels, or be delayed, filtered out, or missing entirely. Forecasts and current conditions can be up to 30 minutes old. The service can be down, or wrong, at exactly the moment you need it most, and it is built by a weather enthusiast, not a meteorologist.
Everyone should have a reliable real-time channel for weather emergencies. These are the official ones:
The radar looks live. It is not. Radar volumes are already minutes old when they reach your device, decoding and drawing them adds more time, and a radar scan is one sweep taken at one moment rather than a continuous picture. Radar sites go down for maintenance, drop scans, and change scanning modes without notice, and low tilts cannot see what is happening near the ground far from the radar.
Do not use this radar for storm tracking, storm chasing, or deciding what to do during severe weather. Do not use it to judge whether a storm will reach you, when it will arrive, or whether it is safe to be outside. Use official warnings, and follow the instructions in them.
All weather data comes from public United States government sources: NOAA, the National Weather Service, the Storm Prediction Center, the National Digital Forecast Database, the EPA, and public government archives hosted on AWS Open Data. This project is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of them. Every source is listed, with links, on the Sources page.
We do not guarantee that anything shown is accurate, complete, current, or available. Data is passed through, reprocessed, and rendered by software that can have bugs, and upstream sources can be late, wrong, or offline. Do not present anything from this service as an official government product.
This runs on one small server paid for by one person. Use it the way a person would, not the way a bot would.
Access may be rate limited or blocked at any time, for any of the above, without notice.
The Android app and the desktop apps are free. You get a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use them. If you installed the Android app from Google Play, Google's own terms apply to that installation as well.
There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no way to submit content. There is nothing for you to post here and nothing of yours for us to host.
The service is provided as is and as available. There is no uptime commitment. Any part of it may change, break, or shut down at any time without notice.
What is collected, and what is not, is described in the Privacy Policy.
This is a general-audience weather tool. It is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. No advice or information obtained from this service creates any warranty.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of this service is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage of any kind arising out of your use of, or reliance on, this service. That expressly includes any decision made during severe or hazardous weather. This service is not a warning system, and you agree not to treat it as one.
If your misuse of the service or your violation of these terms results in a claim against the operator, you agree to cover the resulting costs.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute must be brought in the state courts located in Washtenaw County, Michigan, or the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, that part will be narrowed or dropped to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of these terms stays in full effect.
If these terms change, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
